Funeral & Mourning Customs of the 19th Century at Rosedown

In recognition of Halloween, Rosedown State Historic Site will offer a special program exploring the fascinating—and sometimes unusual—funeral and mourning customs of the 19th century.

From October 26 through November 1, visitors touring the Rosedown Main House will learn about the traditions, myths, and superstitions surrounding death, funerals, and mourning during the 1800s. Site staff will share how these practices differed from those we know today and explore some of the beliefs that shaped the way families honored and remembered their loved ones.

The program will be presented as part of tours of the historic Main House.
