The 14th Colony
This program is a lead up to our participation in the America 250 Celebration of the Declaration of Independence. In 1775 the British Colony of West Florida waited and watched from afar as 13 other British Colonies voiced rumblings of rebellion. An offer from these colonies that were moving towards rebellion had been made but met with only silence from British West Florida. Still the clouds of war gathered on the horizon. Historical interpreters describe and depict daily routines of colonial soldiers, with demonstrations of musket and artillery firing, as well as Eighteenth Century surgical and medical practices. Demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. This program is covered in the park entrance fee. Time and place: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Audubon State Historic Site, 11788 Highway 965, off of Highway 61 south of downtown St. Francisville. For more information, please call the park at 225-635-3739.
