Memorial Day at Rosedown

MAY PROGRAM AT

ROSEDOWN STATE HISTORIC SITE

On Monday, May 27, in recognition of Memorial Day, tour staff will discuss with visitors the military service of members of Rosedown’s Turnbull-Bowman Family.  Memorial Day is a day for mourning United States Military personnel that have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Formally designated as a Federal Holiday in 1971, the mourning of servicemen has been celebrated in different parts of the country since 1868.  The Federal Holiday is traditionally celebrated on the last Monday in May.  For this program, visitors will learn about the military members of the Turnbull-Bowman Family, including their ranks, regiments, service accomplishments and battles participated in.

Rosedown State Historic Site is located on La. Hwy. 10 in St. Francisville, 30 minutes north of Baton Rouge, off US Hwy. 61.  The site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.  Guided tours of the main house are provided on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m. with the final tour of the day at 4 p.m.
