The Women of Oakley

Audubon State Historic Site, 11788 Highway 965 in St. Francisvilleat 11:30 a.m., at 1:30 p.m., and at 3:30 p.m. Four generations of women owned and operated Oakley House in what was otherwise considered a man’s world. At the same time, the generations of African American women who served them fought to create and maintain their own identities. In this guided experience, you will get a behind the scenes look at both lineages of resilient women. Wander the halls and explore the very rooms where female empowerment bred and hear the intimate stories that you won’t hear anywhere else. House tour fees apply.
