The Women of Oakley

Four generations of women owned and operated Oakley House in what was otherwise considered a man’s world. At the same time, the generations of African American women who served them fought to create and maintain their own identities. In this guided experience, you will get a behind the scenes look at both lineages of resilient women. Wander the halls and explore the very rooms where female empowerment bred and hear the intimate stories you won’t hear anywhere else. The tour takes place at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., and house tour fees apply. For more information, please contact Audubon State Historic Site at 225-635-3739.
